A 13-year-old Cedartown girl died in an all-terrain vehicle wreck over the holiday weekend, according to officials.

Deputy Coronor Tony Brazier identified the girl as Emily Clackum. She died around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night at Scottish Rite Children's Hopital of Atlanta from injuries sustained in the wreck, he said.

According to Georgia State Patrol (GSP) officials, Clackum was a passenger on the ATV. She and Tiffany Dawn Greer, 28, were traveling north on Garmon Road in the Akes Station Road area south of Cedartown around 7:30 p.m. when Greer, who was driving, lost control in a curve.

The ATV struck a ditch and ejected both Greer and Clackum.

Clackum was flown to the Atlanta hospital and Greer was taken to Floyd Medical Center in Rome. Greer has since been treated and released, GSP officials said.

The GSP said this weekend has been busy for them in Polk and Haralson Counties. Nine wrecks and six injuries, along with the Clackum fatality, were reported by 10 a.m. Monday, according to reports.

I don't even know this family, but this is just about the saddest story I have read in a long, long time. A young girl dies suddenly, just beginning to bloom in her life. The anguish and pain this family must feel is beyond comprehension. They have to trust in God at this time, more than ever. My heartfelt sympathies to them.
