Mr. Thomas R. "Dude" Pittman, 73, Rockmart, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010, at his residence following a three and a half year illness.

He was born in Aragon, on Sept. 5, 1936 a son of the late Thomas Edward Pittman and Gladys Clinton Pittman. Mr. Pittman had lived the greater part of his life in the Aragon and Rockmart area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force; had worked as a carpenter and for the Norfolk Southern Rail Road and Mowhawk Industries.

Mr. Pittman was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Mary Frances Pittman on May 14, 2003; by a grandson, Max Pittman on Dec. 24, 2006 and by a brother, John Pittman.



Survivors include his son, David Pittman and wife Traci; a brother, Larry Pittman, Aragon; five sisters: Cathy Aiken, Aragon, Penny Long, New Georgia, Jane Platt, Shalamar, FL, Amy Brown, Wedowee, AL and Patricia Motes, Aragon; a grandson; a great granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 13, at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Minister Alvis Miller officiating and Mr. Larry Pittman delivering a eulogy.

Interment followed in the Hills Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside rites.

Serving as pallbearers were David Pittman, Will Pittman, Scott Aiken, Douglas Edwards, James (Cooter) Carter and Greg Motes. Nephews served as honorary pallbearers.

The family received friends Monday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.
