Mrs. Mildred Louise Knowles Smith, 86, of Hiram, formerly of Aragon passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2010.

She was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Lindale, daughter of the late Howard Knowles and the late Bertie Mae Brown Knowles.

She retired from the Aragon Mill and was a member of the Live Oak Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard M. Smith on November 15, 2003; a son, Jerry Smith; a sister, Caroline Cody-Shelley; and two brothers, Edward Knowles and Audley Knowles.

Survivors included a daughter, Debra Walker, of Hiram; four sons and daughters-in-law, James and Brenda Smith, of Aragon, Larry and Sandra Smith, of Dawsonville, Roy and Diane Smith, of Aragon, and Ronald and Connie Smith, of Hiram; two sisters, Barbara Moss, of Macon, and Opal Thompson, of Rockmart; and two brothers, Dan Knowles, of Macon, and Thomas Knowle,s of Hiram; 23 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 2, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Garrett officiating.

Interment services followed in the family lot of the Live Oak Baptist Church Cemetery.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Glenn Smith, Dwight Smith, Dewayne Smith, Adam Smith, Shane Smith, Chris King and Kevin Smith.
