Mr. Leonard Baines, Jr., 81, of Rockmart, passed away Friday, June 25, 2010.
He was born in Bartow County, May 5, 1929, a son of G.L. Baines and Lucile Jenkins Baines. He lived all of his life in Polk County, attended the Clarkwood Academy and graduated from Rockmart High School in 1947. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church and the Coalson Sunday school class. He also served as an usher and a trustee of the church. He was employed by the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation from 1951 until his retirement in 1987 where he built and tested functional test equipment. He was a amateur radio operator whose call sign was K4IZO. He was a member of the Georgia Single Side Band NET and a member and NCS of the Georgia Cracker NET.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Roxanne Baines in 1972 and a sister, Helen Spain in 2000.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Baines, of Rockmart, to whom he was married on November 23, 1955; daughter, Bonnie Sloman and husband David, of Rockmart; son, Randy Baines and wife Martha, of Rockmart; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Baines, of Aragon, and Walter Baines, of Rockmart.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 27, at 2 p.m., in the Second Baptist Church of Rockmart with Rev. David Warriner and Minister Alvis Miller officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Ross Baines, Ricky Baines, Michael Baines, Donnis Baines, Chuck Garrison and Shane Garrison.
The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
