“We didn’t botch a drug raid,” said Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd, who was involved in the capture of seven arrested this week as part of an investigation into a local organized crime ring known as “The Seney Group.”
Dodd is reacting to several Atlanta news reports stating officers stormed a home at 430 June Kemp Road as part of a series of raids and that their actions caused the 76-year-old resident, Helen Pruett, to have a heart attack.
He said none of those reports are true.
According to Dodd, there were several law enforcement teams of combined resources available to the agent of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to serve arrest warrants on those that a three-year investigation had pinpointed as suspects in the crime ring. Dodd’s team got the warrant for Tim Washington, who supposedly was residing at the June Kemp Road home.
He said he and 12 officers went to the home and did surround it because Washington was known to flee.
“We knocked on the door,” Dodd said. “An elderly woman came to the kitchen window and was talking to one of our officers.”
Dodd said he approached the window in full uniform and explained to the woman, identified as Pruett, why they were there. He said he asked her to open the door so they could ask some questions.
“She came and opened the front door. We asked her name and how long she lived there and found out Tim Washington did not live there,” Dodd said.
It was then that Pruett told Dodd she had a history of heart problems and was having chest pains, he said.
“I called 911 and I stayed there, cared for her and monitored her vital signs until help arrived,” he said.
Pruett remains in the critical care unit of Redmond Regional Medical Center (RRMC).
“I drove up to the hospital yesterday morning to check on her and talk to the family. I had rather them hear it from me,” he said, adding that he did explain the scenario to Pruett’s two daughters.
Washington was apprehended at 20 Cashtown Road, Aragon, about 20 minutes after the incident at June-Kemp Road, Dodd said.
Police have confirmed that Pruett has no connection or relationship of any kind to Washington.
Dodd said Pruett’s home was never part of the drug investigation, but was on the warrant because the DEA, which was in charge, had obtained information leading agents to believe Washington lived at the address.
“We were there to serve an arrest warrant. While we were there, she had a heart attack. We rendered aid,” Dodd said.
“I just want our citizens to know the truth.”

Well I was taught to not worry about what people thought in the context that you speak. Was also taught not to worry how stupid something may sound. As I was also taught: "It will all come clean wash day." Hopefully Ms Pruitt will have her wash day.

Well I just have one question. What's it to you where I live? I mean what kind of lame question is yours? People live where they want. Oh and I'm NOT the one that don't know where I am. I'm not the one that is knocking on the wrong door, en masse.
There was more than one news source that reported items that conflict with what is said locally AND it was pointed out by others that some items as stated by Dodd conflicted with other items that he stated.
thinkb4udo wrote: "For the last time where is the solid proof that the County PD caused her to have the heart attack?"
Well "where is the solid proof that the County PD" DID NOT cause "caused her to have the heart attack?"?
thinkb4udo wrote "Mipco, You sound like a flat out idiot that must have had some of his family members or himself/herself busted for drugs or something."
To all posters, I neither missed or overlooked this tidbit that thinkb4udo, who calls others idiot, made. He is wrong on all accounts. BUT, the main point all need to realize here is that with thinkb4udo's claim to "have a very very close connection with the County PD" THIS is the mentality that we are dealing with. I'm surprised that they just didn't come out and say "Ms. Pruitt must have done something wrong or we would not have been at her house".
Oh so now you and the PCPD are her attorneys?
It seems that determination is to be made by HER attorney. Not you.
thinkb4udo wrote: "Why spend man hours (tax dollars) to make sure the person you are looking for is there how could you really know with out just going up to the house?"
Well you call others idiot but think that subjecting innocent citizens to YOUR BLUNDERS is cheaper than "(tax dollars)"? Well of course if you can keep those BLUNDERS inside the county and keep the media locked out. Then rush to victims of YOUR BLUNDERS to smooth it all over.
If you are so eager to usher folks OUT of the county try working on some of the illegals. Me, I was born in Polk quite a few years ago and certainly not living here because of the government services.
thinkb4udo wrote: "...I have a very very close connection with the County PD...
Care to state what that connection is since you "have the hair"?
thinkb4udo wrote: "To mipoco: ..."You are just a flat out idiot plain and simple!"
I don't think it is up to either you or the "County PD" to determine who is or is not an "idiot" and that's "plain and simple". But I will keep your comment(s) in mind.
thinkb4udo you can't possibly miss my point. The thing is I live where I want and you may not like it but there is NOTHING you can do about it. There are courts for people like you who want to bully others. You sure seem to think you know a lot about this case and the local law enforcement.
What I posted was comment on this issue that got leaked outside the county and there are a lot of conflicting statements being made. You may not like my comments or questions but there again, there's NOTHING you can do about it.
This lady probably or at least could be suffering a bit of PTSD from this ordeal that caused the heart attack. For Dodd to go prancing to the hospital to possibly issue a second dose of stress is insensitive on his part when it is obvious that it was little more than damage control. Again approaching someone that you caused this amount of stress on is just NOT done.
Hopefully this lady and her family will at least consider getting legal counsel from a out of town law firm. Maybe a law firm has already contacted the family.
It is their right but you, you seem to want to ward off their right. Attacking posters or citizens that stand up to you or the unsavory practices of some LEOs does NOT help your cause of heralding your own interests.
So, my "invite you to drop over and help me to "pack up and move" if you have a hair" was not a literal invite. Understand that but should you find my address and show up then you will be met with a dose of reality.
thinkb4udo wrote: "Think they do no good, pack up and move we don't need you here."
Now that sheeple thinking right there is what I'm talking about. There are many ways to meet such narrow minded logic as this but since you jumped right out there with "flat out idiot" I will just invite you to drop over and help me to "pack up and move" if you have a hair.
As to the issue at hand it is obvious that Dodd has already tripped himself up and tried to pass the buck.
His comments are pretty much self serving and lame.
“We were there to serve an arrest warrant. While we were there, she had a heart attack. We rendered aid,” Dodd said.
Honesty would have said: The stress we put on her CAUSED her to have a heart attack BUT we did render aid.
Heck they would have HAD to render aid if a person they arrested had the heart attack.
Citizens that do wrong must pay the penalty and so should law enforcement when they mess up.
The story that the PCPD is circulating locally sure is a long way from the story from other sources.
I HAVE LIVED IN THIS COUNTY ALL MY LIFE AND SO HAS ALL MY KEN FOLKS ...I DONT KNOW ANYBODY THAT HAS EVER SAID ANYTHING BAD ABOUT MR.DODD!!!
EVERYBODY MAKES MISTAKES BUT U REALLY SHOULD BE THANKFUL THOSE GUYS WERE AT LEAST TRYING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT A BAD PROBLEM ! IF I WAS A OUTSIDER READING THIS WRAP ID THINK EVERYBODY THAT WAS TYPING LIKES METH????????????
>>> GET OUT OF DRAMA AND INTO FACTS BEFORE ITS TO LATE !!!!!!!!
Dodd is also bragging how he has gone to the hospital to check on Ms Pruitt. We are to think he is concerned about her well being when actually it is simple an attempt at damage control. The damage is done, don't add to it.
Our citizens have to pay the price when they do wrong, sometimes when they do no wrong, so should you. Illegal aliens seem to be the only ones locally that get a free pass..
and
Dodd From AJC: "It was not a search warrant,"
It might have caused me a medical problem as well.
Dodd thinks Polk County sheeple are stupid.
The lady didn't REFUSE to speak with you. In fact you admitted that she was speaking to you through the window. So ask your questions through the window.
This all don't add up. Now Dodd says "It was not a search warrant," yet they surrounded the house. BUT without a warrant they cannot enter the house. So had Tim Washington even been there but not volunteered to show himself then they could not enter to "clear" the home.
Dodd does not admit to entering the home yet other sources says they did WITHOUT A WARRANT.
Polk county sheeple should ask why this county is closed to news and why we must get our news about the county from outside sources when it does leak out.
