A total of five candidates qualified for the Republican party with three running for board of education seats and two for the county commission.
The Democratic party saw nine candidates qualify, five for county commission and four qualifying for the board of education.
Early Friday, officials stated that no one had signed up for the board of education seat in District One, a seat currently held by Dr. Harold Wingfield. That changed late in the qualifying process as Susan Berry, of Cedartown, signed up as a Republican candidate.
The county commission seat for district two is shaping up to be a competitive race with four candidates qualifying. One Republican candidate, Phillip Bentley, qualified and three Democratic candidates, Leroy Peugh, Raymond Barber and incumbent Frank Lott, will all vie for the seat.
Qualifying for the Republican party were:
County Commission, District One, Jason Ward;
County Commission, District Two, Phillip Bentley;
Board of Education, District One, Susan Berry;
Board of Education, District Two, incumbent Grady McCrickard;
Board of Education, District Six, Crystal Sproull.
Qualifying for the Democratic party were:
County Commission, District One, incumbent Sandra Galloway;
County Commission, District Two, incumbent Frank Lott;
County Commission, District Two, Leroy Peugh;
County Commission, District Two, Raymond Barber;
County Commission, District Three, incumbent Marshalle Thaxton;
Board of Education, District Three, incumbent Jane Holbrooks;
Board of Education, District Six, Dan Forsyth;
Board of Education, District Seven, incumbent Tommy Sanders;
Board of Education, District Seven, Nicole Moore.
Absentee voting for the 2010 Primary Election will begin June 7. The primary elections will be held on July 20.
