The Cedartown City Commission voted last night to unanimously accept the resignation of current City Manager James Stephens.

Stephens turned in his resignation on May 1 to "persue other opportunities."

The commission made the vote to accept the resignation after a closed session Tuesday night.

Chairman Larry Odom said the search for a new city manager would begin as soon as possible.

"I am proud of the city's accomplishments during my tenure as city manager," Stephens said. "I am also proud of the fact that the audit reports reflect that the general fund balance is higher than what was budgeted while I have served as city manager."

Stephens began his duties on July 1, 2004.

If you are talking about the fountain in front of the library, it hasn't worked for many many years ( I think vandals used to put soap in there), nothing to do with the drought. I would like to see them plant flowers in there. Whoever takes care of the landscape downtown does a really good job and it is really pretty.

Have you ever stopped and considered the fact the fountain wasn't working was because of the severe drought???

Good. Maybe the new manager can get the fountain at the park (where our swimming pool used to be) working.
