Former Rockmart fire chief to head Cartersville department

Scott Carter, former fire chief in Rockmart, has been named chief of the Cartersville Fire Department. Carter had been the acting fire chief.

Carter, who began his fire service career in 1983 in Rockmart, had served many positions within the department, eventually rising to the rank of fire chief in 1996. He was hired by the city of Cartersville in 2004 as chief of training and investigations. He was appointed to the position of assistant chief in 2006 and was most named acting chief this summer.

Carter is currently first vice president of the Georgia State Firefighters Association, Northwest Georgia Fire Service Representative for Governor’s Homeland Security All Hazard Council, Incident Commander for the North Georgia Incident Management Team and Current Chairman of the Bartow County Emergency Response Council.

Congratulations Scott! I worked with Scott at Rockmart Police Dept. You were always professional and a great guy to work with. Good Luck with your new position.

I've known Scott for many years and I think no one is more deserving of this honor. When he told me he had left the Rockmart FD for Cartersville I knew it would only be a matter of time before he became chief there, too. My hearty congratulations!!!
