The price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline dropped to as low as $2.13 in the Cedartown area Thursday.

The lowest price was at the Food Mart station across from Cedartown's Wal-Mart store on U.S. Hwy. 27.

Nearby, the Murphy USA store had the next lowest price at 11 a.m. today, at $2.14 -- a price matched by the Kroger store on North Main Street.

The Marathon station on North Main Street, near downtown, was selling regular unleaded for $2.16 per gallon.

Other prices in the area were around $2.28 per gallon. That was the average price in the Rockmart area this morning as well.

Local prices were considerably below the state average, which was reported as $2.330 by the www.georgiagasprices.com website.

The national average Thursday morning was $2.509.

Cedartown prices will have to drop quite a bit more though to match the lowest price in the state on Thursday. An Ingles store in Eatonton was selling regular unleaded for $1.71 this morning.

Other low prices were $2.04, $2.05 and $2.07 at some Kingsland locations. Average price in Kingsland -- a community on the coast south of Savannah, near the Florida state line -- was $2.09 this morning.
