An 18-year-old Cedartown man faces child molestation and sexual battery charges, according to the Polk County Jail docket reports.

According to reports, Jonathan Robert Drummond, 18, of 4141 Piedmont Highway, Cedartown, was arrested July 23 by Polk County police on the charges of sexual battery against a child under 16, child molestation and statutory rape.

Drummond is still in jail as of Aug. 10, according to reports.

A Polk County Police Department report states little about the case. That report states Drummond was arrested on a statutory rape charge relating to an incident occurring at a Coats Road address in Rockmart between Dec. 1, 2008 and July 16, 2009.

The investigator, Det. Joe Weldon, stated in the report that he was investigating another case when he received information about Drummond and the alleged victim being involved in a sexual relationship. He stated the Polk County District Attorney’s Office advised him to put the cases under separate case numbers.

The report for the other case was not available at the police department. Officials said Weldon was still working both cases, so he kept his paperwork.
