Rockmart auto accident kills man

An April 6 vehicle accident in Polk County left a Cedartown man dead and a Rockmart man in an Atlanta hospital.

From Polk County police reports:

Bobby Andrew Jarrell, 30, of 982 Young’s Farm Road, was killed after his vehicle, a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero, left an S-curve on Baldwin Road in Rockmart and traveled through a wooden fence.

A piece of wood then went through the windshield and struck both occupants – Jarrell, who was driving and the passenger, 28-year-old James McCollum of 364 Stringer Road of Rockmart.

Jarrell died on the scene, while McCollum was lifeflighted to an unspecified hospital to be treated for a serious head injury.

According to the report, a strong odor of alcohol was emitting from the vehicle.

The scene was then turned over to the Georgia State Patrol for investigation.
