The Cedartown High School tennis teams tangled with Bremen for the second time this season last Thursday and the scores were almost identical to the first meeting. The Lady Bulldogs (4-1 overall, 1-0 Region 6-AAA) slipped past the Lady Blue Devils 3-2, while the Bulldogs (2-3, 1-0) were swept by Bremen 5-0.

In the girls match, the Lady Bulldogs won for the fourth consecutive game.

“We won to improve to 4-1 on the year,” said Leslie Gordon, Head Coach of the Cedartown girls. “I’m proud of the team.”

Rebecca Roberts, a freshman for Cedartown, continued to show her dominance at No. 1 singles, as she destroyed Bremen’s Katy Marmann 6-1, 6-0.

Lady Bulldog Reanah Kellogg won at No. 2 singles, defeating Ashton Garner of Bremen 6-1, 6-3. In No. 3 singles action, Cedartown’s Brittany Fowler lost a heartbreaker to Bremen’s Michelle Lubrano 6-4, 4-6, 3-6.

In doubles action, the No. 1 doubles team from Cedartown, Jasmine Gibson and Brianna Key, won 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 over Lady Blue Devils Sarah Rowell and Miho Suga. The No. 2 doubles team from Cedartown, McCall Barrett and Jasmine Irvin, lost to Bremen’s Blaze Alexander and Dani Robinson 3-6, 5-7.

The Bulldogs, meanwhile, entered the match having won two straight, but they were unable to muster anything against Bremen and lost 5-0.

“Bremen is a strong team,” said Bulldogs Head Coach Malin Evans. “But we will get our feet moving.”

No. 1 singles player Zach Foster of Cedartown lost to Bremen’s Hayden Van Dyke 1-6, 4-6. In No. 2 singles play, Cedartown’s Josh Kirkpatrick fell to Blue Devil Clayton McIntosh 1-6, 0-6. At No. 3 singles, Cedartown’s Bradley Strickland went down in defeat 2-6, 6-7 (2-7).

In doubles action, Cedartown’s Kyle Mehrkens and Zach Brown lost at No. 1 doubles 2-6, 6-3, 2-6. At No. 2 doubles, Rod Patel and Jacob Hubbard of Cedartown lost 1-6, 1-6.

The Cedartown tennis teams are back on the court Thursday, visiting Region 6-AAA rival Villa Rica for a 4:30 p.m. game.
