From Polk County police reports:
James Ray Welchel, 37, of 697 Berry Road, told police that he heard a noise outside his residence and thought there was a prowler.
He stated that he picked up his 22-magnum pistol and walked outside when the gun went off, striking him in his right thigh. The bullet then traveled downward, exiting just above his left knee.
Paramedics from Polk EMS stated that Welchel appeared to suffer only a flesh wound. Welchel was then carried to Floyd Medical Center for further evaluation.
Woman hit by car
A Cedartown woman was allegedly hit by a car in the parking lot of a Main Street business on Oct. 17.
From Cedartown Police reports:
Jessica Lea White, 23, of 1859 Lake Creek Road, told police that she was walking in the parking lot of Bradford Drugs, 500 N. Main St., when she was struck by a Jeep Cherokee.
According to the report, Whites left elbow and forearm were injured during the incident.
No arrests had been made as of press time Tuesday afternoon.
The Cedartown Police Department is investigating the incident.
Aggravated assault
A Rockmart man was arrested after making threats with a gun on Oct. 16.
From Polk County Jail records and county police reports:
Robert Dean Ginapp, 50, of 70 Maple Springs Road, Rockmart, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, simple battery and terroristic threats.
Police responded to Ginapps residence where Teresa Ginapp, 44, said that Robert Ginapp, her husband, had pulled out a .357 revolver during an argument.
Teresa Ginapp said that her husband threatened to kill her 22-year-old stepson, who witnessed the altercation.
Teresa Ginapp stated that she grabbed the gun away from her husband and started running toward the garage door. Her husband then grabbed her and wrestled the gun away. At that point, she grabbed the gun back from her husband and threw it into the front yard.
Police arrived on the scene to find the suspect sitting on a couch with the gun beside him. According to the report, he smelled strongly of alcohol.
Robert Ginapp was arrested and transported to the Polk County Sheriffs Office for booking and the Polk County Jail for confinement.
Cocaine
Two Rockmart residents and an Aragon resident were arrested by Polk County police for possession of cocaine on Oct. 15.
From Polk County Jail records and county police reports:
Arrested were: Cicely Grace Summerville, 19, 419 Bluff St.; Rockmart; Hali Sherice Hulsey, 19, 385 Bluff St., Rockmart; and Rodney Lee Williams, 26, of Aragon. They were all arrested and charged with possession of cocaine and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
Summerville and Hulsey were later released on $6100 bond each.
According to a police report, all three subjects were arrested after a traffic stop in Rockmart.
Summerville, who was driving the vehicle, gave police permission to search the vehicle, the report states.
Inside the vehicle police reportedly found a glass pipe with a substance inside that tested positive for cocaine.
All three subjects were arrested and transported to the Polk County Sheriffs Office for booking and the Polk County Jail for confinement.
