Two suspects accused of murdering two area brothers are expected to face a Cleburne County, Ala., grand jury this spring.

Jamey Ryan Studdard, 32, of Piedmont, Ala., and Billy Don Sims, 19, of Cedartown, were charged in October with the murders of twins William Brent Clemons and Derek Clemons, 29.

William Clemons was living in Rome, and Derek Clemons was living in Polk County.

The initial investigation began in Georgia when the twins’ father, Louie Clemons, filed a missing person’s report with the Polk County Police Department on Aug. 4.

After a lengthy investigation, authorities found the twins buried in a shallow grave Oct. 12 near the Borden Springs, Ala., community.

On Wednesday both Studdard and Sims waived their rights to a preliminary hearing, said Cleburne County Deputy Clerk of Courts Sheila Laminack.

C. Lynn Hammond, assistant district attorney for Cleburne/Calhoun County, said her office is considering seeking the death penalty but has not made a final decision.
