Two Polk County Police Department Officers being investigated for a weekend fight with each other have resigned, police said Thursday.

Cpl. Kirby Odom and patrolman John Paul Jones turned in their resignations Wednesday said Polk County Police Chief Billy Wills.

“I did my investigation and they chose to resign,” he said.

They two had been on paid administrative leave since Sunday, then on leave without pay on Tuesday.

Saturday night, neighbors saw Odom and Jones fighting on a back deck at Odom’s home, and called Rockmart police, Wills said.

“It started with some horseplay,” he said.

Both were charged with disorderly conduct and released from jail on bonds of $275 each on the morning of Oct. 10.

Polk County police Cpl. Jesse Morris, Cpl. Ben McClain and patrolman Bernie Reece, who were at the house at the time of the fight, were also suspended without pay but returned to work Tuesday.

“They are not considered to have done anything wrong,” Wills said. “They were just there.”
