A Rockmart man was arrested for firing a gun numerous times at his wife.

According to Polk County Police reports and Polk County Jail records:

Jerry Crawford Coker, 63, of 3495 Collard Valley Road, Rockmart, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and pointing a gun at another.

Polk County Police received a call to 3495 Collard Valley Road in reference to a woman possibly being shot.

Upon officer arrival, a witness stated that his mother, Patricia Coker, may need an ambulance because she had jumped out of a second story window and possibly had two broken ankles.

Police then spoke to Patricia Coker, who stated that her husband, Jerry Coker, got a gun from underneath their bedroom mattress and went onto the back porch.

There, the victim said that he began threatening self-harm. He then allegedly fired off a round, though, not at himself.

Patricia Coker said she then went to the back porch and her husband followed her back into the house, chasing her into the bedroom.

Jerry Coker then reportedly fired another shot at his wife. At that point, the victim ran into the bathroom and jumped out the window onto the ground outside in an attempt to get away from her husband.

Reports state that the window is approximately 12-feet off of the ground.

Emergency Medical Services evaluated Patricia Coker, who was reported to have a swelled ankle. She stated she would go to the hospital later to have the ankle evaluated.

The gun used during the attack, a .38 special, was found to have three spent round and two live rounds in the chamber.

Police were unable to determine where the third round was spent.

Jerry Coker was arrested and taken to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office for booking and to the Polk County Jail for housing.
