Wilson, 22, 208 Dever St. Apt. 9, Rockmart, had been charged with two counts of murder, one felony and one malice in the shooting death of Roy Russell Coffman Jr., 23, of Braswell Mountain Road.
Wilson also faced an aggravated assault charge in the shooting of Charles Jefferson Moore, 27, also of a Rockmart address. Moore was hit a couple of times with shots fired from the handgun but survived, according to reports.
Assistant District Attorney Don Wilson, who prosecuted the case, said he was disappointed.
“The jury has expressed itself on this matter and it’s over,” he said.
The jury deliberated for about an hour, Wilson said.
Demond Wilson was expected to be released Wednesday from custody.
He had been held since July 30, 2001 when the incident occurred.
Coffman was shot in the head, according to reports from the Polk County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the reports the shootings were drug related and indicated Wilson was carrying his two-year old child in his arms when both men were shot.
Polk Superior Court Judge Marion Cummings is hearing the trial.
