Ware indicted in Bussey murder

A Polk Grand Jury has indicted a Cedartown man on multiple murder and felony charges for the death of a Rockmart woman.

The murder case is one of 15 cases involving aggravated assault or police obstruction that a Grand Jury rendered as True Bills of Indictment. In total, some 55 True Bills were returned by the jurors the week of Nov. 13, during a re-convened session of the July 2000 Term. According to police accounts and Superior Court documents: In October, Cedartown police arrested Ricardo Latjuan Ware, 20, of 100 Janes St., for the murder of Sharon Starr Bussey, 44, of 544 Beaureguard St., Rockmart. Bussey's body was found on Aug. 20 near an abandoned concrete block plant on Jefferson Street, about three blocks from downtown Cedartown. According to the indictment, Ware has been charged on 15 counts. These include murder, kidnaping, rape, aggravated sodomy, robbery, two counts of aggravated battery, and two counts of aggravated assault. He additionally has six counts of felony murder, which were given in connection for the more serious offenses. Authorities state in the indictment that Ware used a concrete block to hit Bussey in the head, which killed her. He also stole some cigarettes and sexually abused her. The Grand Jury also rendered three separate indictments for a local man accused of assaulting someone and having illegal drugs for offenses last year and the summer. Christopher Denard Walton has been indicted for "maliciously depriving" Greg Johnson, also of a local address, use of a member of his body, according to the indictment. On Dec. 29, 1999, Walton is accused of striking, punching and kicking Johnson about the body, so as to disfigure Johnson's body by breaking his ribs and causing a laceration to his kidneys. Walton received indictments on aggravated assault and aggravated battery for the attack, as well as indictments for violating the Georgia Controlled Substance Act (five counts), obstruction and battery for separate incidents occurring in May 1999 and this past July. The following is a list of additional offenders accused of assaults with their indictments: -John Wayne Cason and Anthony Ray Dotson were indicted for their involvement in attacking three individuals on May 31, 1999 in Rockmart. The indictment states both men attacked Mitchell Womack with a knife, threatening to cut him, and later Cason struck Selena Edwards with his hands and Dotson struck Charles Howard with his hands. Cason and Dotson received two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of battery. -Bobby Ledford received three counts of aggravated assault along with gun violations for an incident occurring on July 4. The indictment states Ledford struck Robert Moreno in the face with a shotgun, then pointed the gun at Trina Moreno and Judy Nelson and fired the gun, while under the influence of intoxicants. The incident occurred at a residence on the Buchanan Highway. -Terrance Mayo received two counts of aggravated assault for striking Amanda Williams and Sparky Wilson with an automobile on May 13. Mayo also choked Ms. Wilson with his hands, throwing her to the ground, and drove a car into an apartment Ms. Wilson was renting in Rockmart. He received two additional counts of criminal trespass for the incident. -James Franklin Barber, Jr., and Joshua Dwayne Bailey each received indictments for assaulting Richard Bailey, Jr., with a blunt object on July 16, near Esom Hill. -Gary Wesley Coffee, Jr. received an indictment for assaulting April Spray with a rifle on May 2 in Rockmart. He also was charged with possession of marijuana and alcohol by a minor.

-Lajames Davis was indicted on two counts of obstruction, one felony and one misdemeanor offense. The indictment stated Davis struck Cedartown police officer Joseph Jenkins in the head and attempted to run following an incident November 1999. -Ralph Kinte Knight was indicted for assaulting Rockmart police Cpl. M.R. Cochran in the face with a pistol, during an arrest in August 1999. The indictment charges are assault, two counts obstruction, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. -Larry Britt Morgan was indicted for assaulting Keylon Davis and James Hines with a knife on June 17. -Sonya Renae Shuler was indicted on two counts of aggravated assault for attacking Virgina Sweat on May 31. The indictment states Ms. Shuler threatened to kill Ms. Sweat, while she assaulted her with a rod-like object with the intent to commit murder. -William Robert Jones has been indicted for attacking Porter Smith in the county with a knife. He also damaged Smith's furniture and tried to prevent authorities from arresting him on June 2. -Gerald Scott Hilliard has been indicted for assaulting Joseph Lee with a pistol on May 5. -Joe Lee Powell received an indictment for assaulting Demond Bryan, of Cartersville, with a gun on Feb. 16.
