From reports:
After a skirmish at his residence, Billy Ray Williams, 18, 180 Lowery Road, Rockmart, was charged with four counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and cruelty towards children.
The incident began at approximately 10:32 p.m. Jennifer Williams, 17, Rockmart, claimed she went to the Lowery Road home to pick up her cousin. When the complainant and her companions, Dennis Pope, 25, Lindale, Chris Pope, 20, Aragon, and a one-year-old child, arrived, she reported that Billy Ray Williams told her to leave “because he did not like who she was with.” The suspect then revealed a rifle and pointed it at Jennifer Williams and the Popes. The three got back into the vehicle and began to leave when Billy Ray Williams fired several shots at their car.
Jennifer Williams drove back to her home and soon called police. Officer Chad Desanto later reported that he saw bullet holes in the right front hubcap and fender.
When he arrived at the Lowery Road home, Desanto was given the same account as told by Jennifer Williams. The witness also said that Billy Ray Williams had left on foot, with his rifle in hand.
Desanto left the residence for approximately 25 minutes when he was alerted that the suspect had returned to Lowery Road. When the patrolman arrived on the scene, he found Billy Ray Williams hiding in a bathroom.
The suspect later recounted the incident, admitting to shooting at the car because he didn’t like the driver. He then explained that after the shooting, he threw his gun into another section of Lowery Road. The suspect was then arrested and booked at the Polk County Jail. As of press time, the rifle had not been located.
Drug arrest
A traffic stop resulted in a drug bust Saturday, Nov. 8.
From reports:
Geoffrey Quentinlle Frazier, 25, 634 Georgia Ave., was charged with possession of crack cocaine, no brake lights, failure to signal while turning, driving on a suspended license and affixing a license plate with intent to conceal an improperly transferred tag following a vehicle search.
At approximately 1 a.m., Officer Joe Weldon saw a purple 1994 Pontiac Sunfire driving east on West Avenue. The patrolman noticed that the driver, Frazier, did not have active brake lights on his Pontiac. Before Weldon could activate his lights, Frazier turned onto Second Street without signaling. Thus, Weldon performed a traffic stop.
As Weldon approached the car, Frazier explained that he didn’t have his driver’s license in hand, but was not far from his home. When the officer checked Frazier’s license number, he found that it had been suspended for failing to appear in court. Weldon also learned that Frazier had an active warrant in Powder Springs.
With Frazier in the patrol car, Weldon conducted a search of the Pontiac. Inside, he found a pill bottle containing suspected crack cocaine. Frazier was later charged and transported to the Polk County Jail.
