A Rockmart man has been charged with one count of murder, following a double shooting last week on Dever Street.

Additional charges are pending the continuance of an investigation by area law enforcement agencies.

According to Polk County Police Det. Corp. Ricky Clark:

On Monday, July 30, Polk County officers were dispatched to Morgan Valley Road in Rockmart to investigate a shooting.

Two victims, Russell Coffman, 23, and Charles Jefferson Moore, 26, were located with multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators learned that the actual shooting occurred on Dever Street in Rockmart and the two victims had fled to the Morgan Valley Road area.

Coffman and Moore were transported to Floyd Medical Center by ambulance for treatment.

Police have arrested Demond Eugene Wilson, 22, of a Dever Street address, in connection with the shooting.

On Wednesday, Aug. 1, Wilson’s charge of aggravated assault was upgraded to murder, when Coffman died as a result of injuries sustained in the attack.

Moore is still in the hospital reportedly in stable condition.

Polk police were assisted by agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Polk Sheriff’s Office, Rockmart Police Dept. and Georgia State Patrol.

The investigation is ongoing, Clark said.
