Police have recovered the firearm in the shooting death of a Cedartown teenager and are investigating two additional suspects.

At least one of the two men arrested for the shooting death 19 year-old Jeffrey Pledger remained on the scene talking to passers by and reporters while police investigated yesterday afternoon.

According to Capt. Terry Autry of the Rome Police Department, Eric Hightower, 37, of Rome and Chiresco Montgomery, 28, of Cedartown, were both taken into custody after being picked up by an officer on patrol late Wednesday.

Neither Hightower or Montgomery are suspected to be the shooter but are both suspected to have conspired to rob Pledger.

According to Autry, the two were brought in for questioning before midnight. Hightower was arrested on felony murder and conspiracy to commit an armed robbery charges, while Montgomery was charged with conspiracy to commit an armed robbery.

Hightower remained on the scene, occasionally riding a bike around the neighborhood, talking to neighbors and chatting with a small crowd that gathered in front of the scene.

Autry said more charges are possible and more arrests are expected later today. Anyone with information about the shooting can contact Det. Pete Sailors at 706-238-5118.
