According to reports from the Georgia Emergency Agency today:
An arctic air mass will meet moisture from the west and southwest, setting the stage for the possibility of freezing rain and sleet overnight Thursday through Friday morning.
Expected ice accumulation will range from 0.01” to 0.25” across north and central Georgia. Areas north of a line from LaGrange to Macon to Dublin may see hazardous road conditions. The latest forecasts indicate that northwest Georgia will be impacted by sleet or freezing rain from midnight to 5 am; metro Atlanta to LaGrange, 5 am to 9 am; and central and northeast Georgia from 8 am to noon.
The timing of these potential impacts will be better understood with subsequent forecasts. Please note that a difference in temperature by just a couple of degrees will determine whether this is a sleet, freezing rain, or rain event.
