Hutcheson has served as president of the Polk County Chamber and Development Authority since 1994. She assumed her job with the Chamber as administrative
assistant on May 8, 1990.
Karolyn announced her retirement earlier this year, which was to be effective March 31.
Due to her work with industrial
prospects and the lengthy search for a person to fill her position, it was delayed.
"I am not planning to move away from Polk County," she said. "If needed, I will be available to help during the transition."
Eric McDonald has been named the new President of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce/Development Authority.
"It is apparent to me every day that the shoes I have to fill are getting bigger and bigger," he said. "I think I will go out and buy a new pair."
Larry Dooley, chairman, Development Authority, expressed his appreciation to Karolyn for her service to Polk County.
"She has maintained a close working relationship with Georgia's economic and statewide developers," he said. "She has done a fantastic job. She retires at the end of September but will be available as a consultant if needed."
Karolyn was presented a resolution during a luncheon Thursday. Noted in the document was the fact that she has "served with distinction and honor and has set a superior example to her community."
Also noted: "The Board of Commissioners and Development Authority and Polk County Chamber officially designate August 29 as Karolyn L. Hutcheson Day."
The document included the names of Chairman Sandra Galloway, Polk County Commission; Laron Maloney, president, Polk County Chamber; and Sumpter "Buzz" Nelson, past Chamber president.
