He was born on Sept. 21, 1927 in Anniston, Ala. the son of the late Thomas (Tom) P. Couey and Nellie Montgomery Couey.
Mr. Couey was employed by the Central of Georgia Railway, Georgia Railroad, Atlanta and West Point Railroad, Southern Railroad and retiring from the Norfolk Southern Corporation after 39 years.
He was a member of Keystone Sunday School Class and The First Baptist Church of Cedartown.
Mr. Couey was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Kerns Couey and sister, Helen Inell Couey Meadows.
He is survived by his daughters, Julie Couey Owens of Rome and Tracy Couey Duman and husband Michael Duman of Piedmont, Ala.; brother, James E. Couey and sister-in-law, Joyce Coffman Couey of Cedartown. Several granddaughters, great-grandsons, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral arrangements for Mr. Couey were conducted on Saturday, July 28 at 3 p.m. in the Gammage Funeral Home chapel with Dr. David Taylor and Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating.
Interment followed in the Northview Cemetery.
The following gentlemen wereasked to serve as pallbearers: Jim Chittom, Trey Chittom, Christopher Duman, Jonathon Duman, Todd Couey and T.J. Couey.
The family is accepting flowers; however, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund of Cedartown, 101 North College Street, Cedartown, GA 30125.
