The Polk County Parade Committee met today to discuss plans for a parade and other events to be held on Monday, March 2. The parade will be held to honor members of the National Guard Delta Company 148 BSB, in Cedartown, before their deployment to Afghanistan.

The parade will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Marietta Street, and continue along Main Street.

After the parade, around 1 p.m., there will be a program at the Cedartown Civic Auditorium on East Avenue.

Those expected to be involved in the parade are the Cedartown High School Marching Band and the troops of the Delta Company 148 BSB National Guard. Other participants in the parade were also explored during the meeting.

The American Legion Honor Guard will also take part in the day's events.

At the program following the parade, representatives of the Army are to speak, as well as local government officials. A pastor from a local church is also expected to deliver a message to the troops.

The soldiers from Delta Company 148 BSB are expected to deploy sometime in the days following, March 2. They could be deployed from one year to 16 months.

I can't believe what I'm reading. How dare anyone complain about when & where a parade is going to placed. These brave men & women are fighting for YOUR freedom. Who cares when the parade is held. My husband is one of those brave men & marched in that parade & the ones that posted that their family members served in the Armed Forces shouldn't be complaining when a parade is gonna be. That is when the National Guard arranged it & they have their reasons for doing so. This makes me so angry & how some people are unappreciative of our freedom. Your butts are going over there to fight. Some people just make me sick. You should be ashamed.

twinkley2: There is a saying; "It is better to keep one's mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt." You opened your mouth. Now, close it and go crawl back under your rock.

twinkley2 !!!

You have just PROVEN how it only takes a VERY FEW words....in order to prove a person's COMPLETE STUPIDITY and IGNORANCE. If you DON'T have ACCURATE KNOWLEDGE or REAL EXPERIENCE DEALING WITH ANY OF THIS to offer..? It's best to keep your mouth shut. If you like getting childish , back and forth bickering started..? You might ought to take your "words" elsewhere. Some place where they thrive off of DRAMA!(MySpace or somewhere!) You are obviously speaking not from your mouth,... but from another part of your anatomy. You don't have a CLUE do you? For your sake...,PRAY that YOU NEVER have to KNOW!

PPL like u that apparently, don't have a life and get their kicks from doing what u just did...? I dunno...maybe go read the comics. That IS and IMAGINARY WORD!(Oh...and it has PICTURES for you to more easilly understand.)

SHAME ON YOU!.... If You don't or haven't lived it..? Don't run your MOUTH and show your stupidity! ONLY 5 MORE WORDS and they're easy ones for u...."GROW UP"or Shut UP!

Twinkley2, you don't know what I've thought about or not. My child is a SPC in the 3-21 Infantry, 1/25 SBCT, deployed to FOB (that's Forward Operating Base) War Horse in Iraq since September. They're about 25 miles NE of Baghdad. I think about him every time I lay down to sleep and every time I wake up and every time I sit down to eat and every time I sit down at the computer and every time I do anything else. All the time I'm doing anything, he is in my thoughts.

During the first Gulf War, two of my three brothers were Marines deployed to Kuwait. One of them also served in Somalia. My Father was in Vietnam when I was born. Both of my grandfathers served in WWII.

My point was that most people are at work at noon during the week. It would seem obvious that if you're scheduling a public parade, it should be when the public could attend.

And I pray for every soldier daily, deployed or not.

I'm just thinking outside of the box, but maybe the parade was set up on the National Guards schedule. You know they are the ones leaving not us.

I do not think that it is fair for a parade to take place on a Monday at 12:00. Look at it this way I have an uncle that is in the national guard even though he is not going to go to afghanistan i would still like to be there to show my support for our troops. I think that this needs to be rescheduled for the consideration of those that are unable to come on that day and show their support. I think that it would work better if it was on a saturday.
