There were poisonous snakes in the library last Friday.

The library hosted a reptile show free of charge featuring an African spurred tortoise, a copperhead, a rattlesnake, a baby alligator and more. The animals were from The Southeast Reptile Rescue from Griffon Ga. and the demonstration was given by the president of the organization, Jason Clark.

Clark brought the reptiles out of their cages in front of more than 100 spectators, young and old, in the meeting room Friday. He told stories about the animals and gave many helpful facts and safety tips about dealing with reptiles.

“You can’t think of an animal that is more hated or feared or has more myths attached to it than a snake,” Clark said. “So if we can get people not to love it, but at least appreciate it, then they’ll appreciate everything else in nature. This is the building block we will start with.”

This is the third year that the library has held this demonstration.

“It brings a big crowd every time he comes out,” library branch manager, Angela Campbell said. “I’m glad he came because it’s a very educational experience for everyone. “

Eight- year- old audience member, Jacob, said that his favorite part was getting to pet the turtle. Four year old Liam, said he liked the rattlesnake, “Just because I like snakes.”
