He was born on Sept. 22, 1944 in Paulding County, the son of the late Elbert Thompson and the late Myrtle Williams Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was a retired carpenter and dozer operator and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Aimlee Camp Thompson and a sister, Norma Ellison.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Green Thompson of Rockmart; three daughters, Michelle Thompson Bates and Coy Pope, Lisa McCalpin and Deanna Morgan both of Calhoun; son, Gene Padgett of Rockmart; brother, Jimmy Thompson of Dallas; seventeen grandchildren and 11 grea-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 26at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Thompson officiating. A eulogy was given by his granddaughter,Amanda Stringer. Interment services followed in the family lot of the Yorkville Cemetery.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Austin Bates, Chris Cox, Mike Ellison, Tim Morgan, Stevie Wingo and Scott Moody.
The following gentlemen served as honorary pallbearers: Aaron Bates and Bryan Jones.
