“It’s because of her age,” said Cedartown Assistant Chief Jamie Newsome. “She was convinced by an adult to do things.”
Cedartown police were called to a Georgia Avenue mobile home Saturday night after a father received a call from his teen daughter saying she had been kidnapped.
“In the first couple of hours, we were going on that it was a stranger to stranger horror movie kidnapping,” Newsome said. “In our investigation we found out it was a boyfriend/girlfriend situation.”
The man involved, Israel Tino Pablo, 19, of 120 B Georgia Avenue, is facing charges because he is an adult who lured an “exceedingly under-aged” girl,” Newsome said.
Pablo is in the Polk County Jail on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, interference with custody, false imprisonment, child molestation and statutory rape, according to Newsome.
Since the girl left with Pablo voluntarily, he will not face a kidnapping charge. The false imprisonment charge stems from the fact where there were times in the night where the girl wanted to go home and Pablo would not take her, Newsome said.
Newsome said the investigation went into full force from the moment the teen was reported missing. He said outside help including the Polk County Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and even the Cedartown Fire Department, who provided a Spanish translator, assisted in the investigation.
Pablo was tagged to the teen once investigators started looking at cell phone records. Newsome said cell phones were traced through Rome, Cave Spring and back into Cedartown, which gave them an idea of where to look.
Cedartown officers recognized Pablo’s name from a recent arrest on charges of driving unlicensed and under-aged alcohol consumption. A mug shot was pulled and circulated, Newsome said.
Police also had a description of the car from the previous arrest report.
Police found the car at Grand’s Store on South Main Street, Cedartown, where Pablo let the girl out with the intentions that she was to walk home with the story that she had escaped her kidnappers.
Pablo was found in the car alone and arrested. The teen was found behind a building and taken home.
Newsome said police believe the kidnapping story was Pablo’s idea to buy the couple more time.
