Det. David Gowens said the group is suspected of participating in a “gang-type assault” on Timmy and Robin Gibbs around 10:20 p.m. at the corner of College Street and Hogue Avenue.
Gowens said police obtained warrants early afternoon Aug. 22 for five others.
He said Rockmart police obtained assistance from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force in making the arrests.
“We hit several locations and we were able to locate and arrest all five by 4:30 p.m. Monday,” Gowens said.
Those arrested Monday are from Rockmart and are all charged with two counts of aggravated assault.
They are Christopher Stocks, 23, of 207 Forrest Park, Apt. 2; Chad Philpot, 23, of 1285 Fairview Road; Bethany Wiggins, 22, of 60 Craton St.; Pauline Bryant, 20, and Robert Grandison, 22, both of 223 North Piedmont Ave.
All have been released on a property bond except for Stocks, who remains in the Polk County Jail.
Police had arrested Javon Delmond Bledson, 18, of 223 North Piedmont Ave., Rockmart, on April 11 in the case.
Bledson faces aggravated assault and aggravated battery charges.
The Gibbs were walking home from a nearby creek when a verbal altercation began, according to reports.
Police said the couple was beaten and Timmy Gibbs, 40, was shot in the incident.
Timmy Gibbs was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the stomach. He was eventually released to recover at home, according to a family friend.
Police said Mrs. Gibbs, who was not hospitalized, had other injuries from the beating.
