Small changes and a big move has Rockmart Youth Soccer Association president Bill Sherfesee looking forward to the 2011 season.

And to help local kids get just as excited about the upcoming season, the league will hold its annual soccer camp in July.

After playing at Hilburn Field behind the City of Rockmart Municipal Complex the last few years, the RYSA is moving its operations to the Nathan Dean Sports Complex.

“We’re pretty excited about being at the Nathan Dean Complex,” Sherfesee said. “The youth football field with be used as soccer fields and we’ll have access to the softball field outfields as well as the infield area of the track.”

The extra space will allow more games to be played at the same time.

Rockmart Youth Soccer’s first event at its new home will be the summer kids camp which will be held July 11, 12 and 14 and 18, 19 and 21.

The camp runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each night and children who are 4-years-old by July 1 and no older than 12 on Aug. 1 are eligible to attend.

The cost is $50 for each of the first two children in a family. Each child after that is $35 each. Plus, each child will receive their own soccer ball.

“We’re also still going to try and offer activities and information sessions to better educate parents about the game as well as those who want to coach,” Sherfesee said.

Registration is being held at the City Municipal Building through July 11.

The 2011 season will kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 10 and last through the end of October with league registration beginning around the first of August.

Last year, the RYSA partnered with Georgia Soccer for support and development as well as game rules. This year, the league has switched to Georgia Recreation and Parks Association.

“They have the same guidelines that Georgia Soccer has and this will put us in the same group as all other city recreation sports,” Sherfesee said.

Those who would like to volunteer for camp or the upcoming season can contact Sherfesee at 770-387-8597 or bill@thompsonheels.com.
