A man charged in a Rockmart shooting has been transferred to the Floyd County Jail for his own protection, according to a Polk County Sheriff Office official.

Javon Delmond Bledson, 18, of 223 North Piedmont Ave., Rockmart, faces aggravated assault and aggravated battery charges stemming from the April 10 shooting on Hogue Avenue near College Street where Timothy Leon Gibbs, 40, of Rockmart was beaten and shot.

Gibbs wife, Robin, was also beaten in the incident.

Bledson was arrested April 11 and housed in the Polk County Jail until he was transferred April 17, according to Lt. James Little of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Little said Bledson was transferred because he was getting into numerous fights in the Polk County facility.

“Some of the victim’s family is in here,” Little said. “We did it for his own protection.”

Gibbs in is stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, according to police officials.

An investigation into the incident is continuing.
