Construction has begun Phase II Street-scape in Rockmart. The scope of work includes the portion of Elm Street east to the Rockmart Post Office, west to the railroad, and north on Marble Street to the alleyway between Georgia Power and Statham Tires and Mufflers. A contract, totaling $127,390, has been awarded to Lewallen Construction Company of Marietta. This work is not as extensive as Phase 1, which was funded for a total of $309,000. The City matched 60 percent of that amount with a final expenditure of $450,000. According to City Manager Jeff Ellis, the City put significant dollars into the first phase. This project has been what local and state officials have termed a “team effort.”
