The celebration, an annual event in Cedartown, took place at the City Auditorium at 7 p.m.
Those honored with the 2013 MLK Community Service Awards include Hal Floyd, Tony Davis, Elliot Gammage, Clarence Gibson, Kelly McLendon, Jamie Morris, Anil Patel, Gary Reid, Scotty Tillery, Dale Tuck, Melissa Washington and Tara Payne.
William Brewster was also recognized with an award for his support of the annual MLK walk in downtown Cedartown.
The celebration featured special speaker Letitia Owens, owner of R’Tish Creations, a jewelry design company. Owens and her company also developed a special series of seminars designed to creatively “make over” small businesses. She is also responsible for creating “The Twinkie Awards” which showcases small businesses and the low-cost marketing strategies they utilize.
The event also featured several musical acts and inspirational readings. Those taking part in the activities and entertainment for the evening included Bernard Morgan, Nickie Kennebrew, Tommy Pope Sr., Jan Collier, New Bethel Baptist Church, Zion – A Habitation of Praise Men’s Choir, Nick Patello, East View Baptist Church Men’s Choir and Solo G Mexiking.
Local students were also recognized during the event for their academic achievements. They include Zoe Irene Pasley, Keelyn Mabry, Keenyah B. Mabry, Car’Nevaeh Crook, Jada McCarver, Kelson Jackson, Keen B. Mabry, Chrystal Crook, Raymond Smith III, Carson Crook, McKaya Huggins and Zar-riah S. Wofford.
