Det. David Gowens of the Rockmart Police Department said Leon Gibbs, 40, is slowly recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Gibbs was beaten and shot at the corner of Hogue and College Streets around 10:20 p.m. Sunday. His wife Robin was also beaten but was not hospitalized, Gowens said.
“I’m hoping Thursday he would be in a better shape where I can get a statement,” Gowens said.
Gowens said he has been interviewing witnesses ever since the incident, but is not ready to release details as the investigation is continuing.
Javon Bledson, 18, of 223 Piedmont Ave., has been arrested and charged with the shooting, according to Gowens. Bledson is charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery but could face additional charges, he said.
Bledson also has charges still pending from an armed robbery last May at Little Bear Store on North Piedmont Avenue in Rockmart.
Bledson, then 17, was charged with armed robbery, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime and wearing a mask or device that conceals identification.
He has yet to go to trial on those charges, according to Gowens.

I'd like to know how to swing that...not working and still doing "ok", just sitting on the porch at 1 PM and shooting the breeze on a normal workday for the rest of the us. And when they get "dissed" or want something for nothing, look what happens! Man this used to be a good neighborhood. Now it's turned into just a 'hood.
After 25 years on the job I am TIRED...Anyone else?
