Police reports state an officer was on patrol when the officer saw a 1996 red Pontiac Bonneville turn into the Dollar General parking lot. The officer said the store was closed and, yet, the car sat there and didn’t pull out.
After some observation, the officer went to investigate.
Reports state the driver, identified as Pike, said they were waiting on a friend. The officer noticed a shotgun between the Pike and the front passenger, who reports state was Crumbley. Vaughn was in the back, reports said.
Once backup arrived, Crumbley was asked to exit the car while officers secured the loaded gun. Police said in reports they discovered brass knuckles when Crumbley got out of the car.
As police began to search the car, reports state they found a liquid in a mason jar in the floorboard, bullets and an open gun case not matching the shotgun, and a small butane torch normally associated with illegal drugs.
Reports state further searching led to a small Glock-like weapon and a glass bulb pipe, which police is commonly used for illegal drug smoking. Another gun, a small .22-gauge revolver was also found in the rear floorboard.
Police said in reports these finds prompted them to search further. Police found a scanner, ammunition, a hypodermic needle, a mask and tools associated with burglary in the trunk. They also found a prescription bottle, a small set of scales, several coffee filters, and a small hose appearing to lead to the spare tire area, all of which are associated with “rolling meth labs.”
The Rockmart Fire Department and the Polk County Police Department Narcotics Division were then called for clean up and investigation. One officer in contact with the trunk had to be decontaminated.
