Travis Lavonce Hughes, 36, of Rockmart, died of apparent stab wounds after being attacked inside his home, where he resided with his brother.
Donnie Jerome Wyatt, 50, also of Rockmart, was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault. He is cur-rently being held in the Polk County Jail without bail.
Officials with the PCPD said the call was received around 2:43 a.m. Police then responded to 39 White Street, Rockmart, in reference to a stabbing incident.
Prior to arriving at the incident location, officers located Starling Eugene Hughes, 40, Rockmart, who had run to a nearby convenience store to call 911.
Starling Hughes did have multiple stab wounds and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Upon arriving at the incident location, Travis Hughes was located and found to have multiple stab wounds as well. He was also taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Wyatt was soon determined to be a suspect in the stabbing of the two brothers and was taken into custody a short time later at a Rockmart residence.
According to Polk County Police Chief Billy Wills, this was not Wyatt’s first offense, as he has a long criminal history.
Police declined to comment on a motive in the stabbings, only describing the attack as a home invasion.
Starling Hughes was treated for his wounds and is report-edly in stable condition.
Travis Hughes was later pronounced dead at Polk County Medical Center due to the apparent stab wounds he received.
An autopsy of Travis Hughes is still pending.
County police, along with investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and Rockmart Police Depart-ment were still working on the on-going case Friday afternoon.
